“The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you!’” — 1 Corinthians 12:21

People need people.

God did not create us to walk through life completely alone. He created us for relationships, fellowship, encouragement, support, and love. Sometimes God will put the right person in our path because He knows there is something we need that person can help us through.

But sometimes pride and ego get in the way.

We say, “I don’t need you.”
“I don’t need that person.”
“You can’t do anything for me.”
“I can handle everything myself.”

But the truth is, none of us can do everything alone.

The Bible reminds us that we are members of one another. When one person is hurting, another can help carry the burden. When one falls, someone else can help lift them.

Sometimes the very person we say we don’t need may be the person God uses to help us through a situation we never expected to face.

So why allow pride to keep us from receiving help?

There is nothing wrong with saying, “I need help.” There is nothing wrong with opening your heart and allowing someone to support you. And there is nothing wrong with putting our heads together to find a solution when there is a problem.

We don’t have to agree on everything. We don’t have to be perfect. But we can choose to support one another, listen to one another, and help one another.

People need people.

Don’t let pride separate you from the help God may be sending through another person. If someone is willing and able to help you, don’t reject the blessing simply because your pride tells you that you don’t need anyone.

And remember: one day, you may be the person someone else needs.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to put our pride aside and recognize that You created us to need and support one another. Give us humility to receive help when we need it and compassion to help others when they need us. Help us to recognize the people You place in our lives and never take them for granted. Teach us to love, support, encourage, and carry one another’s burdens. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:
Am I allowing pride to make me say, “I don’t need anyone,” when God may be placing people in my life to help me?
